Frequently Asked Questions
A solder wire connector is a heat-shrink tube with a ring of solder built into the middle.
Strip your
wires, slide them in from each side, apply heat, and the solder melts to fuse the wires together while
the sleeve shrinks and seals the joint watertight — no separate soldering iron, flux, or crimping tool
needed.
SolderGrip comes in three kit sizes — 50pc, 100pc, and 500pc boxes — each with all 4 color-coded sizes
included in the same ratio, so you're never stuck with only one gauge. If you mainly need one size,
the 50pc box still gives you a working supply of all 4 without buying the full 500pc kit.
Every kit includes all 4 color-coded sizes, so you've got the right connector for whatever gauge wire
you're working with:
- Yellow — 12-10 AWG, 4-5 mm² — 5 pcs (50pc box) / 10 pcs (100pc box) / 40 pcs (500pc box)
- Blue — 16-14 AWG, 1.5-2.5 mm² — 13 pcs (50pc box) / 30 pcs (100pc box) / 180 pcs (500pc box)
- Red — 22-18 AWG, 0.5-1 mm² — 22 pcs (50pc box) / 35 pcs (100pc box) / 200 pcs (500pc box)
- White — 26-24 AWG, 0.25-0.34 mm² — 10 pcs (50pc box) / 25 pcs (100pc box) / 80 pcs (500pc box)
A heat gun is recommended because it delivers even, controlled heat across the whole connector.
An open
flame like a torch or lighter can work in a pinch, but it's easy to apply heat unevenly or scorch the
sleeve before the solder fully flows — a heat gun gives you the most reliable, repeatable seal.
Yes. The 4 color-coded sizes are built to match a wide range of standard wire gauges, so whether you're
working on thin electronics wiring or heavier automotive or marine cable, there's a size in the kit
built for it.
Yes — SolderGrip connections are IP67 rated, meaning they're built to withstand submersion, not just
splashing. Once sealed, moisture, salt spray, and rain don't get to the copper underneath.
The Yellow connector is the largest in the kit, rated for 12-10 AWG wire (4-5 mm² diameter) — suitable
for heavier automotive and power wiring. For anything larger than that, you'd need a bigger connector
than what's included in the standard kit.
Yes. SolderGrip connections are built to handle the heat, vibration, and occasional moisture exposure
of an engine bay — which is one of the more demanding environments a wire connection can be in.
Yes — the same IP67 waterproof seal that protects a connection in an engine bay or boat bilge holds up
just as well outdoors, whether that's exterior lighting, a trailer harness, or anything else exposed to
the weather.
Orders ship within 1-2 days.
Yes — every SolderGrip order is backed by a 99-day money-back guarantee. If it doesn't hold up, you get
your money back.
